Think Before You Click
"THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK"
By: GROUP 3 (Saint Dominic)
In our group, we believe in a saying that in "every action, there is a consequence,” It is
a matter of fact that nowadays people are using internet to communicate around the world. We are living today in a world that is dominated by the internet or World Wide Web, as it is also popularly known. It used to link devices worldwide. As much as the Internet has given us—Wikipedia, social media, and etc...—it’s also taken from us. But instead of using it properly, some people are abusing it and using it to destroy others and even their own dignity and reputation.
Almost everything can be found on the internet. For most people, not a day goes by without them using the internet for at least two hours a day: be it for work, or fun, or online shopping, or studying, or contacting friends and family. Millions upon millions of people worldwide flock to social networking sites to read and to speak their minds. It is the power of these astounding numbers that makes, without doubt, the internet as the most powerful and influencing media today. But as internet users, do we know how much we must take responsibility for what we write or say or put in the web? Yes, it is known that we have freedom in the internet. But then again, have we asked ourselves to be more mindful of what we post or to think before we hit the enter key?
Check out this "Think Before You Click" videos from GMA News & Public Affairs:
>>> The campaign is about warning you to think twice with what you share to the world. Be it in the form of words and letters, photos, or videos, these information can be read by those who you shared it with and can affect them as well. There are consequences, possibly both positive and negative; we hope for the former, of course. But the fact of reality is, that is not always the case.
We are using social medias but the question is? How many times have you seen a link on your Facebook wall, begging you to click on it to find out who unfriended you? Or when you’ll die, and how? Think before you click. Chances are, clicking on that link will result in spam being sent to your connections. And honestly, it is just a stupid thing.
Same thing with Twitter. Some unknown handle with an egg for a profile picture decides you need to click on a link. Sometimes no text accompanies it; other times, a cryptic message. Either way, think before you click. Check out first the identity of the user and if you didn't know that user then just ignore him/her.
The internet and social media has indeed become such a powerful tool. But don't forget that we are the ones who operate it. We might have freedom to do whatever we wish on the internet, but we must limit our actions because if we won't be mindful enough, we can destroy lives. We have the power to make the decision. Before clicking that enter key, THINK. Rethink. Help build a healthier, gentler, more loving and constructive online world.
Only you can prevent bad information from being spread.
